Battery Safety

Vaporizer batteries are safe when used correctly. Battery Safety is extremely important. There are a few handy tips and things you need to know to ensure you’re using your vaping batteries correctly. If you’ve got any concerns at all please do not hesitate to contact us.

It is very important to look after the batteries you use for vaping – battery safety is paramount. Both built in batteries and removable batteries must be treated with care to avoid unnecessary stress on your vape batteries which can lead to problems such as overheating and in rare cases venting. Vaporizer batteries, like any rechargeable battery (e.g. mobile phones, laptops), will only have problems if they are not treated corectly. This is why it is important to purchase from a trusted New Zealand retailer to ensure you have adequate information to use your gear correctly!

We only stock authentic batteries at Captain Vapour.

Built-in Batteries

Captain Vapour Kangertech U-Boat StoneBuilt in batteries as found in our Kangertech U-Boats, Kangertech Togo Mini, Kangertech K-Kiss, Kangertech IKEN kit are very safe batteries when used correctly. We have outlined the most important things to bear in mind when using a mod with an integrated battery.

Charge correctly – use the correct charger for your mod. Each mod comes with a charging cable. It is very important to connect your charger to a suitable wall plug. 1A Wall chargers are good for all our vaporizers, but do check for more advanced vapes that can take a 2A Wall charger for faster charging timecheck your mod instruction manual to ascertain the level of amps it can handle. We sell suitable 1A Wall chargers and Car USB chargers perfect for this use if unsure.

Storage – always leave your mod in a safe place away from flammable materials. To be safe we recommend removing the tank from the mod before leaving it overnight. Do not leave your mod in direct sunlight as this can lead to overheating.

Handle with care – keep your mod safe. Dropping your mod can cause internal damage that can lead to venting. We recommend using a silicone sleeve with your device to minimise the possibility of damage.

Buy authentic – companies that produce counterfeit or “clone” products do not take appropriate safety precautions as there is no chance any faulty products can be traced back to the factory they were made in. This means that clone mods are likely to lack many safety features that authentic mods contain. Captain Vapour strictly sells authentic products supplied direct from reputable sources in Europe.

Do not overcharge – most mods (all models available on our website) have auto shut off function that stops the mod from overcharging. This is the same for phones and most rechargeable devices. Despite these safety features we do not recommend leave ANY electronic device on charge for an extended period of time. Taking your mod off charge once it is full is the safest practice and we recommend taking this course of action.

Removable Battery Safety

Kanger Cupti VapourizerThe other style used in vaping mods is the external battery mod. The Kanger Cupti is an example of this. These are mods that utilise rechargeable, removable battery cells. The advantage of this style of mod is that when a battery loses capacity, as all batteries lose capacity through time, it is easily replaced with a new battery. The most common style of battery is the 18650 size.

All current removable battery vaporizers at Captain Vapour use 18650 batteries.

Charge your batteries safely – some mods offer on-board charging meaning you can charge the batteries within the mod itself. While these units will charge via USB, we highly recommend purchasing an external battery charger with a spare 18650 battery. A dedicated battery charge is not only safer and more convenient, but it also extends the life of both your batteries and your mod by putting less stress on them. We stock the highly rated Efest battery chargers.

Check your batteries for damage regularly – your batteries must be kept in perfect condition. Any damage to the outside cover of the battery (like tears) means your battery needs to either be repaired or replaced. We stock spare and replacement batteries here.

Use a battery case – if you are travelling with your batteries we highly recommend using a battery case to keep your batteries safe. The worst possible thing is to put lose batteries in you pocket with things like keys which, if angled in the wrong position, can cause your battery to short and potentially vent in your pocket! We have cases available for your batteries right here. Battery cases ensure your batteries are held in a position where they are safe.

Buy quality batteries – there are a lot of counterfeit batteries available. We source our batteries from the Europe to ensure we are getting authentic batteries as it is very difficult to find batteries in China with any real guarantee of authenticity. Treat any unknown brand or any battery with unusually high capacity/amps with caution as it is likely they are poor quality and/or have been intentionally mislabelled.
If you are using a Clapton, 0.15ohm to 0.5ohm coil, we recommend the Sony VTC4 battery or Sony VTC6 battery.
If you are using a 1ohm to 1.5ohm coil we recommend the LGHG2 battery or SonyVTC6 battery.

We also stock Samsung 35E 18650 batteries dedicated to our range of Dry Herb Vapes, with a longer battery life and a 10A rating.

Keep all this information in mind when using and charging your batteries. Vape gear, like mobile phones and any other electronic equipment is extremely safe when used correctly so make sure you’re treating your batteries right! Battery Safety is the No.1 education.
